Millican Weekends are a series of stories that celebrate the people making big adventures out of small pockets of time.
A good friend of ours, photographer Gavin Richmond, spent a weekend exploring the contours of our local surroundings on a (very muddy) fat biking tour of the Lake District.

Day 1: We started at Bowness and then took the Lakeland Ferry to Ambleside. We then climbed over Loughrigg Fell to Loughrigg Tarn and down to Elterwater, pint at Brittania. We continued over to little Langdale and Cathedral Cavern, biking through the main cavern and the quarry tunnels. We returned over Lingmoor Fell to Chapel Stile and finished with a pint in the Wainwrights.
Day 2: We started at Elterwater and headed to Skelwith Force. We then ventured over to High Wray, onto Claife Heights and down to Lake Windermere where we caught the ferry back to Bowness. Biking helps me to put the mundane routines of daily life to the back of my mind for a while, giving me time to focus on the small things that really mean something to me.
