• London to the Lakes 28th Sep 2012

Without getting too philosophical, the experience of the journey is what it’s all about. Enjoy the ride and all that… It’s not about the destination but the journey.

As the alarm sounded on Tuesday morning at 5.45am, I wasn’t feeling overly enthusiastic about the prospect of getting out of bed and catching the 7.30am train from Euston to Penrith.

Although the wake-up call doesn’t particularly excite me, my monthly visits to the Home of Millican are always a highlight. It’s great to leave the ‘Big Smoke’ behind for a few days and get some of that fresh Cumbrian air.

I also find it relaxing to stare out of a carriage window, whether that be the back of some terrace housing en route, or the stunning landscape of the Lake District. The rain streamed down and across the window for much of the journey north. As I’m sure you’re aware, it rains a lot in the Lakes…

With no traffic and no delays, I just sat back and enjoyed the journey.

I’ve really felt the change in season last week.  The thermostat was tampered with for the first time in a long while and a woolly jumper was donned yesterday.

From new products and materials, to some interesting new collaboration proposals, to dreaming of a new Millican HQ one day, there was loads of exciting stuff to get through.  Although we didn’t manage to get to five-a-side football on Wednesday evening , we managed a few fell walks as well as a trip to the local auction house.  Sadly, our bids were pipped at the post…

It feels a little strange, planning for next year already whilst still in September. With so much great stuff on the horizon though, the concept of time soon takes on a different meaning. We’re in for a great journey …

Wherever you may be, hopefully you’ll manage to get out there too this weekend. Enjoy.
