Le Tour
The Euro’s have finished with Spain crowned as champions. Wimbledon is a week under way and the Olympics is etching that little bit closer. It’s a Summer packed with sport.
Saturday saw Bradley Wiggins make the ideal start to the 2012 Tour de France, finishing second in the prologue to Fabian Cancellara.
Cycling is a big deal to all at Millican, though we may not be the most hardcore bunch, often opting for the more casual approach and steering clear of the lycra and high mileage.
Jorrit descends from a long line of cycling fanatics. He’s Dutch so it’s possibly in the blood.
Whizzing through town
Nicky and I simply enjoy the freedom it brings. Cycling is the ultimate in sustainable travel, it’s much cheaper and more enjoyable than driving your car (particular where I cycle) and that’s good enough for me.
Ideas flow freely at Millican – our ‘inspiration board’ in the Shed (Millican HQ) is a tribute to that, pinned full of all sorts of ideas and inspirations.
Inspiration Board
On a good day we’ll come up with some real gems, on a bad day we’ll come up with, well, … nothing.
For the last 12 months we’ve been developing our cycling collection and also adding extra functionality to our shoulder bags to make them more cycle friendly. Introducing a new product to our small but concise range is like giving birth to a child, or so they tell me.
The new shapes have been inspired by our love of cycling. The designs are coming into the final stages of development but, without going into too much detail, we’ve teamed up with some good friends who know a thing or two about the joy of two wheels.
We’ve been fortunate enough to work with some highly passionate and knowledgeable people since Millican started back in 2008 and it’s been no different for the development of our cycling range.
If all this cycling stuff is of interest, then you may want to consider signing up to our newsletter and keeping a watchful eye over our Facebook page, as in the coming days we’ll be launching a competition that will hopefully get us working in ‘tandem’ (pun definitely intended).
It’s a new and fun approach for us as a company – to interact and connect with our friends, now all over the world.
Watch this space…
All this talk of cycling has no doubt got you in the mood “Le Tour” style.
Well, as appealing as a day in the Alps is, I recommend checking out Matt Carrol’s Escape Routes – a hand picked selection of stunning cycle rides around England – less Lycra and isotonic gels and more sleepy villages, cosy pubs and the best of the English countryside.
Happy cycling.

Design ideas for paniers as not on facebook:
Paniers are difficult to carry around so some carrying mechanism – perhaps backpack straps or shoulder strap
Reflective strips on side and front to increase side on visibility
A hard wearing material – guess that is obvious
One click lock on and one click removal
Tool pocket separate from other pockets
If you buy two can you get something that can go over the top of rack and join them together – additional storage.
Clearly labelled left and right
Perhaps a lock holder?
Someway to stop your bike lights being turned on when you pop them in a pocket
Hi there Hugh,
Thanks for your comments – much appreciated.
We intend to add a shoulder strap so you can comfortably carry when not cycling. You’ve not been the first to mention reflective strips for increased visibility (great minds). Love the idea of a tool pocket and also adding something to attach two together.
Thanks again, we will be announcing the winner via our newsletter around the middle of next week.
Enjoy the weekend.
