ANDREW
Leather guru,
J&FJ Baker
Here’s a company with easily the longest corporate history, if you’d count the fact there has been a tannery on its site since the Roman times.
Now the only remaining oak bark tannery in the country, its long tanning method has changed little in centuries. Andrew and the team soak oak bark from sustainable sources in the Lake District in Devon waters to extract the tannins needed for the gradual tanning process. The water of the river Coly moves the tannery’s large waterwheel, slowly turning the frames holding the drying hides.
In contrast with the speed-tanning of chemical methods, these traditional methods preserve the natural weave and ensure our bridle leather is able to withstand the rigours of life in and out of your back pocket.
Products influenced by the leather guru are Matt, Ian, Bob and Chris.
